  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nails

I have trimmed my bunnies nails lots of time with no problems and yesterday i trimmed it to far and made it bleed a little. I feel awful. But now she wont let me check on it and i was wondering if they can get infected or just its sore and hurting her . She is also grunting at me when i go to have a look at it

I've done that before and not been allowed anywhere near to check it! If he's ok in himself otherwise I'd just keep a close eye but if there are any other concerns have a low threshold for getting him checked over. It makes you feel so bad doesn't it!

she never used to grunt at me when i have done it before but now she is grunting everytime i go near her. I was wondering if it could get infected by her litter tray as her foot sinks in to the litter she puts her feet in the area she wees. How would i know if its infected

Is she limping or walking any different as this would be a red flag that she is hurting alot.
Its quite common to over clip, even my vet did it last time I took bun and she was so embarrased! Vet had a stiptic pencil that she dabbed on and it stopped bleeding but did make bun jump as it stings, I hve heard of others using corn flour to stop bleeding.

Sure she will be fine as most bunnies get an overclip at sometime.
