  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tumours and abscesses

How is it best to keep a bunny comfortable when they have these issues. Smoo is on metacam daily but nothing else now. I'm going to speak to the vets again tomorrow after finding yet another lump. She's had so much surgery to remove all sorts of lumps, abscesses ad tumours and they just keep coming back. I discussed with the vets and after so much surgery and penicillin injections for the abscesses I just didn't want to put her through any more. On Thursday I found a huge mass in her abdomen, probably her bladder as she's had all her womanly parts removed. I'm scared for her and sad and I don't know how much longer she's got. I don't know if I want to risk an operation again, or what I can do instead to just keep her happy.

She was flat out in the sun today and as happy as I think she could be, but any advice would be great.

Sorry, i cant help but want to send lots of healing and positive vibes to her.. xxxx and you xxx

It's so very difficult in your situation, I really feel for you. She has been through an awful lot :( I guess it's best to see what the vet says, it could be something less complicated than you fear.

What I tried to do for Nena was to give her the best week/few days as possible in the days leading up to her operation. Then, if something was to go wrong, at least she had a happy few days. I think that's all you can do really. Personally I let her run around in the garden for ages as she loves that.

I hope the vet/vet visit gives you good news. Poor Smoo. I feel so sorry for you :(

Pain management I would say is key and to know your bunny so you can decide when her quality of life has decreased big hugs x
