  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Combined Vaccination

Max died last night, he was six, a giant bunny, 6.8Kg two weeks ago. We had some tricky times together. One time he was near death with EC but we pulled back and he's been well for a good two years with regular panacur and myxi vaccinations.
Two weeks ago I took him to be vaccinated and was offered the combination. I took it, he's never had VHD vaccination before. He was given a very thorough examination and pronounced fit.
I started panacur this Monday so he had four doses of that this week and a good defluff and massage every day! He was eating well yesterday but died in the night.
I guess it should be a time to celebrate his life. He was rescued with his brother. I thank Karen for that and Animates for letting us have them. They both had a blast!
I called the vet to let them know and they told me that it wouldn't be anything to do with the vaccination although I read on this site that the most serious complications come 2 - 4 weeks after vaccination. The nurse said they don't and six is a good age for a giant, she'll report it to the manufacturers anyway. We have another younger bunny who was done at the same time and she seems fine, different risk factors.
I just wanted to share this with the forum and wondered if anyone else had a similar experience.
