Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Rabbit not eating well

New Kit
Hi,

I am a little bit concerned about my rabbit Casper not eating very well. On Friday his bonded friend Oreo went to the vets to get neutered, she was released on Saturday but I was told to keep them separate. On Sunday night Oreo had to be re-admitted to the vets because she wasn't eating or passing droppings and is still there (however should be getting released today). Since then I have noticed Casper doesn't seem to be eating very much food, he has been eating hay but his pellets and veg don't seem to be going down much. I also feel like his stomach feels quite big but he is using his litter tray and is passing lots of droppings and generally seems to be OK. Also he will eat raisins if I offer them to him.

I think I might be being a little bit paranoid because I googled GI stasis too many times because I was worried about Oreo. Anyway should I be worried? Do you think anything is wrong with him or is it just he's a bit lonely.

My bunnys always go to the vets Together and stay together if one has to stay in there x he might be stressed because he's missing his partner , I would ask the vet to have a look at him he might need some meds to get his gut going

I know it would of been much easier if they could of went together but it wasn't an option. I'm going to pick Oreo up from the vets this afternoon so I will mention it and see what they think.

I can't believe your vet would split a bonded pair up they should have let them stay together x hope they are both ok when you get bunny home :)

Hope Casper is happier once Oreo is home. It's good that he is still eating his hay, but any change in a rabbit's eating habits is a bit worrying. Are Casper's droppings normal? If they seem smaller and harder than usual he may well be going into gut slowdown.

They seem fairly normal as far as I can tell. Definitely no drastic change in shape or number.
