  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi :)

One of my buns has become unwell. He is not eating very much, producing very small poo's and is slightly bloated. Its possible he has a dental issue but it could also be something else. All kind of horrible things running through my mind like a colonic tumour. He is obviously in some discomfort and I've also noticed a slight wobbling on his back end. I have been support feeding him Recovery and he is also still able to eat soft veg such as herbs and fresh grass on his own. I've given him Infacol and also Fibreplex. Can I give him baby Ibuprofen and if so what is the dose, please. Obviously he will be off to the vet first thing tomorrow.

You need to contact a Vet straight away

You definitely cannot give Ibuprofen as it may make his gut problems much worse. The best thing you can do for him is to get him to a Vet today

Good Luck

Hi hun I have to eco what everyome else has said, it is ESSENTIAL that he see a vet NOW! In cases like this many bunny owners wish they hadnt waited till morning cause these symptoms in a rabbit are very serious and can be a matter of life and death if treatment is not sought straight away! I dont mean to scare you iam just trying to make you see the urgency of getting him to a vet. Good job on the infacol- this will help with trapped gas and the fibreplex is brillient as it increases fibre in the gut helping to stabalise. But he does need prescribed meds as well, he should recieve:

A gut stimulant such as Metaclopramide and/or Zantac
Pain relief- if the vet does not do this without being asked you must demand it! We use ketofen but metacam can also be used in buns- these two drugs should NEVER be prescribed together though!

Good luck!!

My wee Floppy had very similar symptoms and I delayed a tad longer than I should have, my inexperience showed..., Something I bitterly regret and cant forgive myself.. He was PTS....

Dont let that happen to your bunny...

Jezzer went for a dental yesterday. He is still a bit unsteady on his feet, but is eating soft foods and looking much better in himself.
