  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What to do with Chaplin?

She was well enough to come home from the vets, she's been nibbling bits of hay and forage, and had a bit of mint and basil too.

She looked like she was eating her cecals and she did a couple of soft, but solid, poos.

Should we avoid pellets? She gets very little anyway, I was stripping bark off apple branches to encourage her to eat it and we're going to get some fresh brambles and hawthorn tomorrow as we only have stuff that's dried out.

The vets said to bring her back in ofc if she seems any worse, but if she's ill and grieving over Seeley it's going to make it harder for her to fully recover :(

When we got in we let her come out of her carry case and she ran upstairs, but the door to her room wasn't open and once we'd opened it ushered her in. She sat in there for a bit and we brought Seeley to her, but he smells like the vets and we're not sure if she recognised him, she seemed to give him a little groom though. We left her upstairs but she soon came down and is now looking miserable in the hall way :(

Here's her poos as of now. Still tiny but actually looking a little golden! She's gone from no pooing at all, to doing small, soft poops, to this in about seven hours.

She's continuing to eat little bits, had mostly herbs as they seem to be her favourite (usually she's not fussy what she eats), but if she's producing poops like this assume it means her gut is moving normally? It means she's managed to eat cecals and have them pass through her again.

She's still miserable, but currently sat cleaning herself on the bed.

I'm sorry about Seeley :( When Mischa died we spoiled Mini quite a bit the first few days, gave her a few extra pellets and spread them out a bit too so she'd have lots of small portions instead of them split into two meals. She wanted to be left alone initially and hid from us quite a bit but I left a couple of treats under the bed with her and eventually she ate them. Also gave her an assortment of forage and different hays and things, just as a bit of variety and interest.
