Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi everyone! :) im new to here!
I just want to find a good vet to get my rabbit neutered, also for regular health checks and so on...
I live in Northern Ireland, any idea? if it is close to the Tyrone/antrim area would be the best!
just a bit worry as i read on some forum that not all vets are familar with rabbits
Hope you guys can suggest a good and reliable one for me! :)
Also, any idea how much it costs to get a rabbit neutered?
Many Thanks! X

Hello, I am afraid I cant help with specific recommendations. But a general guide would be to ask if the Vet treats a lot of Rabbits on a regular basis, including surgical procedures such as neutering

Ask about vaccinations. ALL Pet Rabbits, both indoors and out, need to be vaccinated against Myxomatosis and VHD. If a Vet were to say vaccinations are not necessary, or not necessary for indoor Rabbits I would not register with that Vet

Ask about general things like admission protocol. Is there a Vet/Vet Nurse on the premises 24/7 should your Rabbit ever require hospitalisation

Are Rabbits kept away from Cats and Dogs when admitted

Then you could ask if the Vet keeps up to date with Rabbit specific medicine by attending CPD courses etc and if they felt a specific case was beyond their current knowledge would they be happy to consult with specialist Vets and/or refer your Rabbit to them

Finally, a good tableside manner is really helpful too. Nothing worse than a Vet who is condescending and not open to discussion about treatment options. A few Vets can think they know it all and they are the dangerous ones !!

Good luck with your search and welcome to RU :D

Hi! thank you for reply! :D
I have searched online and found a number of vets which treats small animals (but they don't specify whether they treat rabbits or not)
gonna phone them tomorrow and see!
just brought my rabbit home, it is a wee girl! she is a bit shy(keep hiding in her house), think she still need a bit of time to get used to her new home!

Is there anything I can do to help her to settle down quicker? x
