  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Really worried about Willow

First she had the worse case of mites I've ever seen, her back end is completely bald. Vet took skin scrapping and confirmed I sucessfully treated them. Now she's started losing weight, and her right eye has started weeping. When the sun caught it yesterday I saw it was red (not sore red, like the lens was a red colour) with partial clouding. We're straight off to vets, I'm thinking teeth although she's been eating fine until yesterday she seemed off her hay and having some soft poops as a result. Please spare some vibes for her. Any thoughts what to expect at vets? Does she need to be a certain weight for a ga if her teeth need sorting?

Just on my way to collect her from the vets. Her teeth were in an astonishing state can't believe she was eating at all, vet and I both had concerns about ga risk can't believe she's recovered so well she can come home. Starting her on panacur antibiotics and pain meds. Fingers crossed she starts putting weight on now. Several vets looked at her eye, the red is blood from some kind of trauma but does not appear to be tooth root related. So we are going to observe it and will be referred to specialists if not improved. I had such a bad feeling about her, her temp was so low yesterday someone is smiling on me today.
