Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What are these flies?

Young Bun
At night when I go out to cover over the rabbits I am bombarded with these tiny black flies. They are definitely flies but not midges, well not the usual type(not sure if there are other types). Hutch is clean, well I cleaned it out fully (spray, scrub, dry, full change) and tbh these flies are about anytime whether it's the day I clean them or on the day they are due to be cleaned.

I don't think they're harmful to the buns probably more annoying. I've got a lice repellant type spray for small animals. Should I soak the hutch front in this in the evenings? Or should I be doing more. They are definitely some type of fly but only tiny

No I don't feed them fruit. They don't really like it. I do have a lot of crab apply type things falling in my garden from next door but they are still at least 8ft away from hutch. Not noticed them anywhere else but not really ventured about the garden looking. Def not ants.

If they are fruit flies are they a risk to the rabbits?

Just googled fruit flies. Def not them. I will see if I can get a picture when they are about next. Can't say I noticed them tonight as I went out in poor light to cover over the hutch
