  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Applying Rear Guard

Any suggestions? Have considered using a vice ...

It's taken me over an hour. I've been nipped (a warning "gerrof" nip), scratched and run away from. And they're only in their run :lol:

I think I've got most of it on - got some under their tail too :thumb: They didn't like that; a case of  !

It's not the easiest thing in the world to apply to a rabbit's fur is it? Why don't they do it in a spray?!

I use those thin rubber gloves, squeeze the dispenser into my hand to release the foam/liquid and then rub it in. Much easier than trying to push the applicator onto the rabbit, but still not easy

I either push it down onto flat cotton wool pads or, press the plastic applicator release thing in the applicator sponge, let it run onto my rabbit then use a cotton wool pad to work it into the fur!
If you are not used to it, it can be difficult and I suggest getting some help, if the rabbits are being difficult. One person should hold the rabbit whilst the other puts the rear guard on. Maybe one of the Vet Nurses could help you out.
I do my 2 by myself, one handed when I do them underneath. It wasn't easy the very first time!! It does get easier though.

I dont think the manufacturers thought about how to apply it to a squirming mass of angry bunny!

I use the Fly Gaurd version as it's a spray.
