  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help

slushy

New Kit
so the night before last, i switched slushy to a new cage &noticed that he wasn't pooping, nor has he up to now. i know this isn't normal &he has me really worried. he's still acting normal, he's eating &hopping around &grooming himself, but still no poop. only pee. my problem is, (considering i'm from Guam) there are no vets that really treat rabbits around here. i made some calls &was told to just "monitor him" as if i haven't been since i noticed all this. PLEASE HELP! i really don't think i could handle it if i lost him... :(

Have you allowed him time out of his new cage ? Some Rabbits will be reluctant to poo in what to them is a strange environment. If you still have his old cage try putting him in there for a while too.

Is he drinking ?

He really does need to be examined by a Vet though, as that is the only way to establish what is going on.

you need to get his gut working. running about is good - i chase my buns (gently) around the house if their tummies aren't working. tempt him with fresh water - have plenty about.

my instinct says feed a tiny amount of pineapple - but wait until someone more experienced replies, because i don't know if that would be safe.

give him a good 15 minutes of gentle belly rub once per 4-6 hours. And try to feel his stomach - right below the ribcage - is it soft or hard? it has to be soft if everything is fine.
