Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

just got in from work, its a sunny warm day today and twinkle is sort of dithery, she can move but wont eat anythign and ive tried it all shes let me pick her up which never happens. she seems to be a bit shaky when shes laid down, her ears seem to be trembling with her breathing. her breathing i would say is slightly faster than normal

She is laid down and ozzie isnt really bothering with her
Ive got in at the vets for 5.30 but the receptionists first word was could be flystrike they are kept very clean and she is spottless clean.

Firstly, ignore thr receptionist, i dont know why they have even mentioned that without a diagnosis and think it is wrong for them to of done so.

If she's refusing food, its more likely to be teeth/tummy troubles, but i would let a veterinary specialist determine what is wrong with her.

I'd personally take said bun to the vets now and wait with her, if the vets have a quiet area, away from cats/dogs etc.

Have you checked for any maggots?

The symptoms could be anything, as Graham has said but I would certainly check myself.

i have just bum checked her shes spotless, shes been and had a wander round the patio then gon back and laid out, shes just not right. her ears are cold, I think i will set off early then maybe i will get in a bit quicker, many thanks for the super fast replies

Good luck at the vets.

I agree that its more likely teeth/tummy or pain related but thought I'd mention checking just on the off chance as I'd not want to wait till 5:30 if she did have flystrike.

Shes had baytril injection and Zantac injection. vet says her chest sounded a little bit 'hasky' but not liquidy? Her guts feel ok, her teeth are ok. Shes been drinking since coming home 15mins ago, shes still breathing fast.

vet says we need her eating overnight and pooing so they are in for the night so i can monitor her. shes just flopped out in the cage.

i have baytril to give her starting tomorrow and an appointment in the morning if there is no improvement. At the moment shes just not right, lets see how the evening pans out

Did the Vet take her temperature and did he administer any analgesia ?

She did take her temp it was fine. Shes had 0.17 x Zantac unj 2ml and 0.1ml baytril inj 5%. I have baytril 2.5% oral for her tomorrow.

She weighs exactly the same as she did 8 weeks ago when she had a mammary tumour removed.

I think its going to be a long night

So it sounds like the vet has not administered any pain relief. Poor bunster, i would be speaking to the vets this morning and asking for some if she still appears very uncomfortable.

Continued thoughts.

I agree I'd be asking my vet for some pain relief, something like metacam. Zantac is gut stimulant and baytril is an antibiotic.

Well what a difference 24hours makes. Yesterday I did wonder if I would get to the vets in time. By late evening when my daughter came home she perked up ate, washed and wee'd. I still kept them in overnight, this morning she was eager to come out of the dog crate and run around, things have gone from strength to strength today, I rang the vets and they said cos she had turned round so well I didnt need to go back.

She had her baytril with juice this morning and was nice and fiesty which to me means shes fine:lol:

Thank you for all the help and advice, as i said in another thread its great how strangers can be so kind and it really was appreciated, particularly the speed of replies when I panicked:D
