  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
hi there i was after some help while i wait for my vet to get back to me.

I noticed one of my rabbits back legs (the front half) seems to be at an almost 45deg angle to the rest of her foot. I noticed it about 30mins ago and have rung the emergency vet. I was wondering if anyone had experience of this and knew what could be wrong.

It does sound like a fracture

Can you phone the Vet again and emphasise the urgency of the situation ?

Meantime you need to confine the Rabbit to prevent her causing herself more damage

Is she eating and pooing ?

What is her general demeanour like ? Is she bright or is she very quiet and feeling cold to the touch ?

If she is the latter then she may be in shock and it is absolutely essential that she is seen by a Vet ASAP. You need to make sure she is kept warm and as calm as possible.

Thanks jacks-jane just got back from the
Vet, the vet thinks its a fracture due to the
Angle. So we've left her at the vet to have
an X-ray to see what the problem is. Waiting
For another phone call to find out.

Bless the dear little soul

I do hope that something can me done to help her.

Fingers crossed for a positive outlook. xx

So vet called look like its a fracture, their keeping her in
Over night and have Placed a bandage to help with the swelling.
We're waiting to see the bone specialist on wed, looks like she
May need an op :(

Oh no! I'm so sorry, this must be very worrying for you.
Have the vets given her plenty of pain meds? I hope they have.

Do you know how it's happened? I would check her cage/living area just to double check nothing caused it.

xx

So went to see lily today shes okay, on 3 different pain medication and waiting to see the surgeon 2morrow.
I saw the x-ray too and it looks bad - shes fractured her 'fingers' at the base. :(

Fingers crossed it goes well and she can go home soon. Could she have caught her paw, or toes in anything, like mesh or gaps?

The poor little darling.

I hope that she can be helped and she makes a good recovery.

You're doing everything you possibly can do.

Sleep tight little bun. xx

I'm so sorry; I hope the surgeon can give you some good news tomorrow & fingers crossed your rabbit will make a full recovery. My bunny, Alfie, dislocated his hock a couple of years ago & has a pin in his foot but you would have no idea to see him now. :D:D

So sorry to hear this and I hope you bun gets better real soon.

Hopefully today goes well for you both xx
