  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
My 4 day old kit was fine yesterday and today i checked him and he looks like hes got dry skin or dandruff. i looked online and read it might be mites? or could it be something else? if it is mites how can i treat a kit that young for them?

If its mites you should see them moving, it will probably just be dry skin, my kits used to have it, is it behinde the ears?

Not sure. With her/him being so young, it might just be a 'phase' or fur growing?

Human babies often get really dry skin to begin with. Do the other kits look the same?

it was hot last night, so it might be dry skin. i did not see anything moving and i recall this morning the majority of the hair had been pulled away from where the baby was in the nest (by the mother) so perhaps he was over-hot. if it is, should i try to humidify the air or cool down the temperature? the heater went a little crazy last night and refused to turn off as it usually does so as i said it was hot. if i wanted to rule out mites for sure i could see them moving correct? on the mother too i assume.
