  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

now charlie is sounding snuffly and has a white discharge from one nostril as well as honey! im taking them to the vet tomorrow but im concerned. they are fine in themselves, but baytril didnt work for honey at all and vet said the next step would be amoxycillin injections but he was hesitant to do this. he is rabbit savvy- he's ivan from kynoch vets and has been superb so far.he said he'd give a probiotic as well i think. i know its likely to be an ifection for certain now as its past on to charlie:( will they ever be rid of this? im feeling hopel;ess for them at the moment!:( would appreciate advice. i didnt realise how stressed i would be when they get ill! feeling a bit stupid really...

It would be worth getting a culture on the discharge, but hopefully if you can tackle it in both of them at once you can get it back into remission.

thank you :) my dad thinks im mad to worry about them so much  at least they're still stuffing their faces though!

One of my buns had the same in the summer, and 6 out of my 7 get symptoms to some degree.

Honey had Septrin, which didn't do anything. Metacam helped a bit for the anti-inflammatory. She had cultures done, and ended up on Depocillin injections every 3 days for some time.

My other buns are all ok now, and Honey isn't on any medication, but does have the odd sneeze.

Hope you get on ok at the vet
