Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lack of Vitamin D in house rabbits?

rachylou

I am wondering if Jimby may be suffering with a form of SAD, he is always worse gut wise this time of the year?
Could a Vitamin D supplement help him?

Most rabbit pellets contain Vitamin D.
It should be on the ingredients & nutritional info on the packet.

Rachylou I'm going to forward you the PM of the article that Prettylupin got from the rwaf mag (I think) and sent to SarahP and she sent to me. Its about the amount of vit d they need being less than commonly thought.

Its in two parts.

edit: hope it helps. Remember they get vit d from hay. I cant find the exact levels A&P has in it online, but it will have an appropriate amount, it is a good brand and wouldnt be reccommended on here if it didnt have vit d in it.
