  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Back to the vet tomorrow!

ElsasMummy

Warren Scout
Taking bunny back to the vet tomorrow and am going to make sure she has a thorough exam and I come away with some sort of diagnosis!
Elsa is 8 years old and her symptoms are...

Generally appearing lethargic (although she has slowed over the years anyway)
Constantly looking like she's chewing (accompanied with a wet sound?)
Being quite picky with her eating and only drinking from a bowl (she also makes wet noises and looks uncomfortable after eating, has even sort of wretched a few times!)
Scratching her face a lot
Occasional hunching and tooth grinding
And of course the sneezing and runny nose that hasn't cleared up with a ten day course of Baytril

Basically she's not a very well bunny! Does anyone have any suggestions or perhaps an idea of what to make sure the vet checks (dental? bloods? x rays?) Would really appreciate opinions as I'm not 100% confident in my vet's experience with rabbits but I can't travel to a different one :(

I would guess that she needs a dental and that she has some dental spurrs causing her some pain in her mouth. However, I am not a vet and that is only a guess. ;)

I would make sure the vet does a thorough examination of her (and her mouth) to find out what the problem is. I know some vets worry about causing too much stress for the bunny when checking their back teeth. In my opinion, 2 minutes stress is better than weeks of pain.

Good luck. :)

Thank you, yes I agree, her syptoms are seeming more and more dental-ish! And the last dental check I had (2 weeks ago) Was definitely not thorough so we shall see what this new vet says.

I just want her to perk up desperately! I can't stand watching her in discomfort!

Cliff's on holiday this week :'(

Am seeing an alternative vet but I will make sure that they give a thorough dental exam.

I feel like I'm going around in circles, if I had a car I'd go to a specialist but with no car and on a student budget it's just impossible :(

Vibes for my poorly old bunny please xx
