  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Smelly Urine

Chloe had stasis a couple of weeks ago and is absolutely fine now. But ever since she has had really smelly strong wee. I put it down to medication and being poorly at first, and then trying (and failing) to pair bond her (thought it might be hormones, even though she is spayed)but 2 weeks on and the smell is getting stronger. I have some katkor cat litter to use tonight to try to get a urine sample for the vet in the morning. She is fine in herself and eating and drinking normally, there is no messy/wet bum.

Any ideas what it might be? Could it be uti? Or maybe stress related?

No I havent, never had one with problems before, what do I need to look for (clueless about scent glands/problems really) I know where they are located which is a start.

Ick, could well be that, she appears quite clean in that area but she is really fluffy and fidgety, I tried looking earlier and earned myself some lovely scratches on my arm, she doesn't like being held upside down while I fiddle near her bits. Will take her to work with me tomorrow and ask the other nurse to hold while I attempt to clean. She also wee'd on my carpet and left a rather nasty looking browny orange wee which has stained my carpet and smells rather sweet (OH will be mad when he gets home tomorrow!!)
