  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Opinions on further gut stimulant for Daisy-Boo

HS

Wise Old Thumper
Daisy-Boo was taken to the emergency vet last night as she looked very poorly indeed and wasn't eating, was all hunched up. She wasn't responding to the recovery food I was giving her.
She was given a gut stimulant and further recovery food, and was actually eating hay a couple of hours afterwards.
This morning, she was begging for her breakfast as usual and seems right as rain. Obviously I will assess her throughout the day.
The vet (not my usual one) said to bring her back today for a further gut stimulant jab. Now, if all seems to be working correctly, is this a good idea?

To be honest, if my vet said that I'd go as if anything happened I would always question if I should have taken my bun back to the vet. Also, it's a good idea just for the vet to give your bun another check up too then at least you'd have peace of mind :D

If she is stressed out by vet visits then phone the vet for advice to see if she needs to come in or not.
