  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dudley's liver problem...ultrasound booked 30.03

Santa

Wise Old Thumper
He has never had a day sickness in his life, but today he suddenly started sneezing and snotting. Took him to vet his liver has suddenly swollen enormously, the vet was shocked at its size she can feel it both sides of his ribs. Currently waiting for blood test results. What could cause this? I am worried my little man might be shutting down :-(

Oh I'm so sorry. What a shock for you. I know it's unbelievable how quickly a bunny can suddenly become ill.

Thinking of you and sending vibes for Dudley x

Oh no what a worry. I have no idea on what it could be but wanted to say i am thinking of you all and hope the vet can find out what it is and treat it quickly x

Just got back home...vet thinks blood results indicate some kind of sudden onset infection :? So we have antibiotics and to monitor carefully. No wine for me tonight in case we need a visit to the emergency vet. £100 vet bill wasn't exactly the birthday present I had in mind!

I took Mavis as well (actually proved to be another good lesson on why bonded pairs should go to the vet together) and she is fine, so it seems unlikely that it's something that he/they have eaten, as it's only him with the problem.

:?

hope you caught what ever it is soon enough and he makes a full recovery...

loads and loads of vibes xxxxxx
