Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Rabbit with matted, flakey skin, losing hair around eye?!?!? help?

New Kit
Hi
My rabbit will be 6 months at the end of March, she seems fine in herself, as happy as ever but below her eye looks horrible. Her lashes are not growing inwards and her actually eye ball looks fine.

Just below the duct (which makes me think she has a bloked duct or infection but not sure) the fur is short, and patchey, skin is a bit dry and flakey and fur a bit matted.

any ideas what it is? or how to treat myself? or do i need to take to vet?

I have bathed it with warm water and warm salt water seems not to have made a difference.

please any ideas or anyone had the samew problem? also do you think it will pass on to litter?

many thanks?

have u got any ruff ideas as i only just brought her 3 weeks ago so a bit annoyed with breeder selling me the rabbit as she told me it was just dust from hay in her eye.
regards

It could be anything for mites to fungal. To me it sounds fungal and could be ringworm. But thats without seeing the animal, what you describe is what I have just gone through with my guinea pigs and that came back as ringworm.

She needs a trip to the vet who will then do a culture if possible and send it off for testing. It could be something simple like mites which is easy treated.

ring the breeder and ask her to contribute to any vets bills that arise. Sounds like a bad breeder, stay away from this one in future, or anyone she is associated with. Rescues are much better, and more honest.

Have you got a picture?

I strongly urge going to the vets, there will be nothing you can do at home to treat it properly if you dont know what's causing it.
