  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Jaz has stopped eating and has been unusually quiet for about 2 days. She is still drinking. She has eaten a few little bits, but not much. She only really eats when you give her something, for example if you put a bit of hay in her face etc. She has eaten a few basil leaves, but is more interested on rubbing her head on them.

Her stomach doesnt feel bloated, and she has no drool around her mouth and isn't grinding her teeth. What is it, and whats the best treatment?

She has not eaten for 2 days and you haven't taken her to a Vet :?

It's impossible to say what may be wrong without examining her.

A Rabbit who has not eaten for 2 days is in BIG trouble. Please phone an out-of-hours Vet NOW as Jaz needs examination and treatment tonight.

2 days is a long time for a rabbit to not be eating and the small poos show this. please get her to a vet tonight.

She has eaten, just not as much as she normally would.

I wasn't disagreeing that she needs to see a vet, just any idea of what it could be

I dont know - a vet would obviously give you more of an idea.

Starbuck went in to stasis earlier this week and the vet wasnt sure why - no blockage, no bloat or gas - sometimes it just happens cos of stress, or spring fever or having eaten something new...

I would definitely get your bunny to a vet to get the treatment she needs. She may well be in pain as well.

Dental problems
GI impaction
Ear infection
Lower Respiratory tract infection
Cystitis............... the list is endless................

Seriously, Jaz needs to be examined as 'not eating much' is a symptom of just about any condition you'd like to name !!
