  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Partial or early stasis or something else?

One of my buns is being treated for early stasis. I have only ever experienced full blown stasis when bunny is hunched and lethargic and not eating at all. Bungle however will eat blackberry leaves and will move around and is alert, his poo however is much much less and smaller.

He's on injectable Zantac, Metaclop and Loxicom. I'm also syringing watered down pineapple and recovery as well as hand feeding the leaves.

He's eating a small amount of hay but is just not 100%. I'm checking on him about every 3 hours and moving him around.

Has anyone else experienced this and what was happened? I'm worried something will turn for the worse and maybe I have missed something?

Oh, he did have his teeth checked at the vets yesterday and all fine.

Thanks

Do they mean ileus?

I never knew the difference between stasis and ileus, someone on here, prettylupin I think, explained that ileus is the slowing of the gut movement and stasis is when it stops completely.

ETA: it's like stasis, the sooner you get treatment the better, so hopefully all will be fine.

Sending lots of vibes xxx

Thanks Nicola, I haven't heard of that I will do a search, but yes that sounds more like it. I am assuming the meds will keep his gut moving until he can do it himself again? I am calling them tomorrow to ask about sub cut fluids, as I have just been advised this would be worth checking out.
