  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sneezing

Hello
I have two male rabbits, Topsy and Filthy. Topsy has been sneezing for about two weeks, now I notice he sometimes sneezes several times in a row. I think I even heard a small sneeze from Filthy today. They live outside (we live in Uganda) where the outside temperature is around 28 degrees during the day and about 18 at night, so not cold! Neither of them have runny noses. Filthy has pink eyes (unfortunately) and they could be looking a little pinker around the edges, but I could be just imagining that; apart from that they are both eating and pooing and running about as normal.
Is it a cold? Will it just clear up on its own? Any comments would be good.
Cheers

Please get him seen by a vet. My Mina had only this symptom (occasional sneezing) and the vet insisted it was the dry air in the house causing it since she had no other symptoms. As it turned out, he was wrong, and by the time more symptoms appeared and he could diagnose it as Pasteurella, it was too far along to save my girl. If you get him seen now, ask to have a culture and sensitivity test, even if the vet thinks it's not necessary.

Sending lots of good thoughts to your little guy! xxx
