Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Post Neutering care

New Kit
Hi,

I've kept male rabbits for a good few year, with our old rabbit living to 12, but I've no experience with having rabbits neutered as i've never had them from young, always rescue/from friends who can't keep them anymore.

Jeremy is my baby mini lop (8 months house rabbit) and decided to have him done after his mad obsession with my arms...

He's been to the vets yesterday to be done and came back ok. He's eating and drinking fine and weeing and pooing but the vets had to put a lampshade on him as he was licking his wounds but he's really not happy with it. He's got painkillers but he's going mad licking his feet and back legs (as this is as far as he can reach) and I'm a bit worried about him. One of his sacks has swollen up and gone a bit blue - is that normal?

Also, how long before he can go back to his normal routine? Just he goes for a walk on a lead round our estate everyday and even after a day he's so restless but I don't want to risk any infections or anything like that, any ideas how long he has to be in the house and not go out for, and when can I tell when he's all healed up so I can take his lampshade off?

Thank you!
