  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Barley more incontinent than ever.

B suffers with regular cystitis & has always been unreliable with her litter training habits but to be honest when you see a bun strain & having difficulty passing urine you are quite pleased to see puddles of wee on the floor.I bought a bag of mixed herbs that is supposed to be good for kidney problems & having been using it for a few weeks, the only thing is Barley always seems to be weeing on the floor now.I am so pleased she is weeing ok now, dont get me wrong, but is this a good thing?Or does this mean there is a bigger problem. She is happy in herself, playful energetic but she does seem to be drinking a little more than usual. She has drunk nearly a whole bowl this morning & Dill has not had any yet.Maybe the dry herbs are making her more thirsty which will explain the increase in fluids & of course it has to come out the other end!Any opinions please?:)

does she actually have kidney problems? as excessive drinking and weeing does sound like there may be something wrong.
if it is incontinance and she cant control where or when she goes than she may have EC. my old bunny Maisy had this, she was constantly covered in urine as she just couldnt control it.
if your worried about kidneys then the vet can do a blood test.

No,she never does it on herself & yes we were told she has bouts of cystitis, which apart from twice,we have regulated through a diet the vet has suggested.Once she was so bad with it that she was almost crippled. The vet put her on baytril & painkillers.Touch wood, she hasn't been that bad for 18months.

maybe the herbs have encouraged her to drink and pee more then. a bit like us drinking cranberry juice when we get cystitis.
as long as she is eating and not loosing weight i would see how she goes.
