Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Bunny specialist vet in south-east London?

Adela

New Kit
Hi there, does anyone know of a good rabbit specialist vet in SE London, Bromley or Beckenham?

Many thanks

I don't know about 'specialist' but GBH rescue is in Beckenham, you could try emailing them to see if they will tell you what vet they use, as they are bound to see a lot of bunnies. Or they might know of a specialist practice somewhere in the area where tricker cases get sent to :)

I am nearish Bromley and go to Mark Rowland in Maidstone. That might be a tad far though.

I have seen a lot of recommendations for Mark at Trinity. I have been going Margetts and Luck (now Bearstead vets) for years but am thinking of changing - have you heard anything about them?

I took my bunny there last week as he was grinding his teeth and not eating as much. She didn't LOOK at his teeth, just felt them and decided it wasnt that. She gave him some injections and I left there £45 poorer and feeling that I still didnt know what was wrong with Toki. He started eating more but still didn't seem 100%. This morning he has starting dribbling very badly from the mouth so it is BLATANTLY his teeth. I just feel like, if she'd looked (or maybe knew what she was doing) this would have been sorted before getting to this point.

Because of this and few other things (she was the head vet btw) I have started to lose faith and am wondering if it's time to try and find someone who knows a lot rabbits (and rats) and Marks name keeps cropping up.

How much is a Rabbit consultation with Mark please ladies?

Mark is no more expensive than any other vet, but I recommend him 100%. He saved my bunny's life

His myxi and vhd jabs are CHEAPER than my old rubbish vets too.... please book a consultation. It is will be the best thing you do for your bunny.

Ditto ^

Vaccs are cheaper than our old vet and he gives them a good thorough examination. We've never felt we've paid over the odds for anything. We paid £80 for Mischa's dental but have had about 5 follow up appointments with him and not paid for a thing.

Also if you take two bunnies with the same problem they won't charge two full consult costs.

I am totally sold. I am going to hopefully make an appointment with him tomorrow, he sounds great.

Lately, going to my current vets, I just get the feeling that I know more about what is wrong with my pet after a few hours researching than they do! Although Mr Margett who doesn't own it anymore, did bring one of my ratties back from near death and I will be eternally grateful.

Thanks so much for your help, I feel so happy now I could binky!

Let us know how you get on!

If you are interested, and want to see the story of Twinkle and how I came to have Mark as my vet you can read my thread..

It is amazing how I went from such a terrible situation to a great outcome.
I did read your story already, it was lovely and I can really sympathize as I have been in similar situations, unfortunately without such a happy ending and I still now, after 2 years ask myself "what if" and blame myself a bit. I always feel like I shouldn't speak up because the vets have studied for years and what do I know, but when I haven't I have regretted it. I think now I would rather come across as someone who thinks they know it all than lose my pet and feel like a fool for not questioning things.

Just like with Toki at the other vets last week, I knew (well, was convinced) it was his teeth and should have insisted she look at them instead of just feeling with her bloody fingers.

So... I went to Trinity Vets yesterday and made an appointment specifically with Mark. (That other vets dress sense is funny - he had a Hawaiian shirt on! He's got to be Australian hasn't he - anybody know?)

Anyway, bloody hell! They don't mess about in there do they, straight away he said, yep it's his teeth (damn you other vet, my bunny has been in pain for a week just because you couldn't be minged to look in his mouth and just gave him painkillers like that will remedy it or something). I left my bunny there that very morning, came back at 3 and he was all better, right as rain! He had his teeth filed down at the back and I got some very good advice too. As soon as I came home Toki (my bunny) started eating his normal food and is now feeling so much better, if not a little sorry for himself.

For future, if any people come in wondering, a bunny consultation is £24. That's only £4 more expensive than my usual vets but, after the treatment we got yesterday, I would pay double that to go to this vets.

The funny vet is Richard, he's from NZ ;)

Glad to hear everything got sorted. :thumb:

Richard at Trinity Vets is also a great vet, very good with Rabbits.

Mark helped us keep Tinker, our house bunny who survived Myxi, for a good 2-3 years longer than he would have lasted at our usual vets. Tinker had to have injections every day and other meds, but he did so well for so long. Mark liked Tinker a lot and regularly looked after him at weekends if we needed to go away.

Other vets are not keen on giving pain relief to rabbits because they don't have enough experience. With Mark, you'll never have a rabbit in pain.

I took a rabbit to see Alan Margett - he told me 'I've seen so many rabbits with teeth problems and I don't do them anymore, see one of the other vets' - WTF !! I don't go there anymore.

Couldn't recommend Trinity Vets enough.
