Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
I have seen a lot of recommendations for Mark at Trinity. I go to Margetts and Luck (now Bearstead vets) but am thinking of changing - have you heard things about them?
I took my bunny there last week as he was grinding his teeth and not eating as much. She didn't LOOK at his teeth, just felt them and decided it wasnt that. She gave him some injections and I left there £45 poorer and feeling that I still didnt know what was wrong with Toki. He started eating more but still didn't seem 100%. This morning he has starting dribbling very badly from the mouth so it is BLATANTLY his teeth. I just feel like, if she'd looked (or maybe knew what she was doing) this would have been sorted before getting to this point.
Because of this and few other things (she was the head vet btw) I have started to lose faith and am wondering if it's time to try and find someone who knows a lot rabbits (and rats) and Marks name keeps cropping up.
How much is a Rabbit consultation with Mark please ladies?
I am totally sold. I am going to hopefully make an appointment with him tomorrow, he sounds great.
Lately, going to my current vets, I just get the feeling that I know more about what is wrong with my pet after a few hours researching than they do! Although Mr Margett who doesn't own it anymore, did bring one of my ratties back from near death and I will be eternally grateful.
Thanks so much for your help, I feel so happy now I could binky!
I did read your story already, it was lovely and I can really sympathize as I have been in similar situations, unfortunately without such a happy ending and I still now, after 2 years ask myself "what if" and blame myself a bit. I always feel like I shouldn't speak up because the vets have studied for years and what do I know, but when I haven't I have regretted it. I think now I would rather come across as someone who thinks they know it all than lose my pet and feel like a fool for not questioning things. If you are interested, and want to see the story of Twinkle and how I came to have Mark as my vet you can read my thread..

It is amazing how I went from such a terrible situation to a great outcome.
So... I went to Trinity Vets yesterday and made an appointment specifically with Mark. (That other vets dress sense is funny - he had a Hawaiian shirt on! He's got to be Australian hasn't he - anybody know?)
Anyway, bloody hell! They don't mess about in there do they, straight away he said, yep it's his teeth (damn you other vet, my bunny has been in pain for a week just because you couldn't be minged to look in his mouth and just gave him painkillers like that will remedy it or something). I left my bunny there that very morning, came back at 3 and he was all better, right as rain! He had his teeth filed down at the back and I got some very good advice too. As soon as I came home Toki (my bunny) started eating his normal food and is now feeling so much better, if not a little sorry for himself.
For future, if any people come in wondering, a bunny consultation is £24. That's only £4 more expensive than my usual vets but, after the treatment we got yesterday, I would pay double that to go to this vets.
