  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bald ears

My rabbit Feline has had bald ears for quite some time, this started after she was spayed (april 28th), a few weeks later it got really bad and I took her to the vet. When he took some samples from her ears, he could just easily pull the hair out, way too easy. Anyways, they couldn't find anything and I had to keep an eye on it. She lost almost all the hair that was still left, but a little while ago it started growing back. Until last week, there was a small, shallow wound. And now, a week later, it's getting bald again.

It's not itching, it doesn't seem to bother her at all. The skin does look a little dry, with a lot of flakes.

Could this have to do with her diet? She was slightly underweight when she was spayed, so I started giving a bit more SS.. I think her weight is better now, although she could use a little more, but it's hard finding the right balance, since they're eating not nearly as much hay as before I gave more SS now, and they get a lot of excercise..
