The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Swollen vagina...

Montannnna

New Kit
Hey everyone,

I'm new here and was just hoping someone might be able to help me out.

I have a 2 year old, spayed lop who has been pretty healthy since the day she was surrendered to me.

This morning she was fine and nothing unusual was noted in her health check but I just arrived home from work to find that her vagina is very swollen and somewhat pink.

My first thought was her being in heat but I had her spayed last July so that can't be it... also urine scald but she's the cleanest rabbit I've ever owned and has never had a problem with her back end..

I'm going to be taking her to the vet tomorrow because I'm very concerned.. but I'm just hoping someone might have gone through a similar situation or knows what it might be.

Please let me know!

Thanks in advance guys!

When Julie had a problem with crystals and she had an infection bladder or kidney (not Sure which) she looked red and swollen in that area. Once the crystals were gone and she finished antibiotics for the infection she was fine.

Okay, I hope that's all it is.

It doesnt have any discharge... it is just VERY puffy and bright pink. She's still eating and drinking normally... she's a little more angry than usual but I can only imagine that it must be very uncomfortable!

Thanks for your reply! :)

Is she vacinated for myxi? Does she have swelling anywhere else?

A trip to the vet is the best thing to do. Hope it goes ok.

Fluffers, you're right!

I ended up having to take her to emerg because her breathing got VERY fast, she had a very high fever and had stopped eating and drinking all together.

The doctor I saw was not a specialist in rabbits unfortunatley because it was an emergency clinic but he's pretty positive that it's syphilis. We gave her a shot of penecillin and she's to get another one next week and the week after and I've been force feeding her with critical care but she's started to get her appetite back already.

I appreciate you guys answering me and giving me your thoughts!

Phew - that's good - I mean it's good that you know what it is and that you can treat it :) Please keep us updated on how she gets on :)
