  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poorly baby bunny

Any thoughts?

One of our litter of three seems under the weather tonight.

The bunny is 7 weeks and just sitting quietly in the corner.

I definitely saw it eat and drink earlier today.

It's happy to be held, eyes clear but not eaten toniight and is just sitting there. Will take to the vets tomorrow but just wondered if I can do anything in the meantime? The other 2 are bouncing about as usual.

Does his belly feel hard/bloated/gassy ?

Personally I'd call the Vet for advice. Kits at that age are in the very high risk category for gut dysbiosis which can become life threatening within a few hours even WITHOUT diarrhoea.

How long since you are certain you saw him drink ?
Has he passed normal faeces today ?
Do his ears feel colder than the other Kits ?
Is he weaned ?

Yes he's weaned and not with mum - when she had her second litter she started attacking her older three so they love seperately and have done for about 10 days.

I saw him drink early afternoon, not since. He doesn't feel cold, no.

Faece wise I am not sure as the three of them are together but there are no abnormal faeces.

I'll take him to the vet first thing in the morning, just wasn't sure if I could do anything else for him.

I'd syringe him a few mls of cooled boiled water.
If you have any Gripe Water/Infacol you could give him 1ml of that too.

If they are outdoors I'd bring them in tonight

Hope he'll be OK xx

Further Update

He seems fine this morning, not sure what that was about, maybe he was tired? They were in the house running around for ages...
