Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Seperating Babies From Doe

*Spider*

Wise Old Thumper
As some of you know I'm fostering Angel.
Her babies are 6 weeks old and she has a new home lined up.
I would imagine that babies can be seperated at 8 weeks old minimum.
How long after they've been weaned can she be spayed?
Thanks

Hiya

When my pregnant foster had babies I waited until 10 - 12 weeks before separating them and them got her spayed at about 16 wks after giving birth - to ensure she had enough time to recover and build herself up again. I got Mum and baby girls done together.

i cant find any information on it anywhere, but when Jelly had her babies they said she could he spayed when the babies had been seperated from her for at least two weeks, to ensure she was strong and healthy and in the best possible condition to be spayed as she would have had a rest from the babies.

I was also told the blood flow is increased around that area due to having the babies and the womb changing etc to cope with birth and its less risk to the bunny if you leave it a couple of weeks. again i cant seem to find any info on that but i remember my vet telling me that, and we waited, and jelly was fine.

This is a very good idea.
Winter needs to be spayed plus the 6 week old bubbas are girlies!

I pretty much done the same as SJ with the exception of Bobbi staying with Eva. I wanted to keep Alfie socialised with Eva so I wanted to get her spayed so he couldn't try and get her pregnant.

I think if you can wait though that's the best option :)
