  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Gone off pellets.

Smokey the last few days seems to have gone off his pellets. He is eating tons of hay and plenty of veg.
Is this normal?

No that's definitely not normal my two usually try to take my hand off for pellets. :?
Mine usually do but smokey has not been interested, tried him with carrot, middle of spring greens and apple all which are quite hard and he ate it so i am thinking it is not his teeth:?

I would get him checked out at the vets, something like molar spurs can first show this way. I would guess if it is spurs that it is down to how they eat those different things. Or maybe he is willing to eat through the pain of spurs for fresh food but not pellets.:p

Was it a new bag of pellets?

Yes. I agree, would get him checked out at vets.

Tinkerbell stopped eating pellets and I just assumed she had gone off them but she had molar spurs which needed treating.

She started eating them again afterwards!

mine have a love/hate with pellets all sat at the door waiting for them, then i put them down and its like 'oh them again' and proceed to pick at them!.
