  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Kitt is limping slightly =[

I noticed yesterday that he was limping slightly, so I clipped all his nails thinking maybe that was it... he was a bit off it yesterday so I thought I'd leave him. He appeared ok this morning and I've gone home leaving Claire looking after him as it's my mums birthday and she says he is limping again, but is still eating, pooping, etc etc and running around.

What should I do?

xx

Perhaps he has a thorn or something in his paw? Or perhaps he has damaged his leg in some way? bruised? broken? or even his shoulder? It could also be neurological? VHD limp I think tends to be more immediate so if the vaccine was a month ago I would have thought that unlikely? but i'm not certain on that one. I think a vet check up and examination is a must. Hope he feels better soon?

Thank you, his vaccination was on Monday of this week... so it could be that? :?

Was it lapinject or cylap? It should be written down on your bill or vaccination card? If it was cylap - then it's the classic VHD limp - a well known side-effect of the dreaded Cylap vaccine. It happend to our bun a few years ago. We have a different vet now who only uses lapinject thank god!

It was cylap... will he be ok?

Yes he should be fine but like hurrican honey says get him checked over just to be on the safe side. It made ours a bit stiff and he had the limp for a day only. Just make sure he keeps eating and drinking and pooping and weeing and i'm sure he'll be fine in a day or two. They can often get a scab/sore at the site of the injection as well. I think you are meant to ring the vets and tell them this reaction has occured and receive any treatment relating to it for free! As it is their responsibility not yours!

shouldnt last more than a day or so,make the vet aware that a reaction has occured [arent they meant to report it?] Next time ask for Lapinject instead of cylap.
