  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

i've been looking for some insurance for eric as the pasteurella and/or syphillis prob has proven to be quite expensive and he's not yet 5 months old. hadn't had chance to take out the insurance before he needed his first vet trip:censored: v annoyed as i take insurance out for everything important to me (and eric's way up there ) - just cr*p timing with this illness.

i know no one will cover a pre-existing condition so if these symptoms return at a later date, the insurers won't pay out.

however, as he's a netherland dwarf, i will be wanting to keep a close eye on his teeth from what i've learnt from this site. no tooth problems reported yet but could anyone advise as to whether i should get him insured now - would it be worth it or would the insurer make out everything was connected to this pre-existing episode? and which company would be best?

Check the policies-I'm sure some dont cover dentals.Could you maybe put the money aside each month instead, say in a savings account so that its there whatever problem occurs.I dont have insurance but I know a lot on here do,I think Petplan is popular [I got a quote for my 2 for about £16/month]

thanks for your advice daisylop, i'll make sure i read all of the small print before i take out a policy
