Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
I got home from work this afternoon to find my bunny's eyes looking like they had little bumps on them, i have kept him indoors for 2 weeks with his little sister and de fleaed to find this so i took him straight to the vets which diagnoised him the sister is fine, they gave me cream for the eyes and said he should be fine hopefully because the genitals are not swollen and might only have a mild form of this. Has anyone else had this problem ???

Sorry to hear your rabbit has myxi. If your rabbit has been vaccinated against it then they get a different form of it. It really depends if it is in your area. Cats, foxes can bring it into your garden via fleas.

yes he has been vaccinated i have only had him 4-5 weeks but apparently 7 months old the 2 i have got have been indoors now for two weeks so i cant understand how he caught it he is white i have checked for fleas but nothing the vet did say a mozzi could have got him all they gave him was eye drops at the moment to see what happens. the other rabbit went down hill so quick i hope this one will be ok.

Look at my website below - if it is myxi and your bunny is vaccinated then as long as it is still eating and drinking and therefore not in too much pain, there is a good chance of recovery. Tilly had a severe form of it, even after being vaccinated. Good luck - any questions I'll be happy to try and help

Im so sorry to hear about your bunny. Unfortunatel indoor buns can still get myxi.n Our indoor bunny caught myxi last year and unfortunately didn't survive. Sending lots of vibes x

many thanks for your replies i cant believe how bad your bunny looked to the way he looks now my bunny does not look to bad at the moment so fingers crossed x cant believe my luck first my conti giant 5 weeks ago with a sudden collapse he was my baby and only 9 months old then these 2 the 12 week old looks good so fingers crossed all round x

I hope your bun makes a full recovery.
I was in Colchester last weekend and saw a myxi wild bun. There seems to be lots about at the moment. We have it here in Leicester too.
They can catch it from a number of biting insects including fleas, mosquitos and even mites
