Advice please regarding cloudy/sludge wee

Daphne & Peanut

Alpha Buck

Hi I've just been cleaning Daphne out and have noticed there is quite a thick whitish residew on her blanket, she is litter trained but hasn't been using her litter tray as much recently. She has a small handfull of SS pellets in the morning a small handful in the evening and also veg in the evening which can consist of the following , spring greens, cucumber, celery , spinach, coriander, brocolli, rocket, basil and mint and of course unlimited hay.

Now i know that this could be down to too much calcium so I will cut out the brocoilli and spinach but is there anything else i can do? She drinks alot of water a least 1/2 a bottle a day and always has done so I don't think I can really get her water uptake up anymore.

I have read on here somewhere that SS pellets are higher in calcium than some of the others so is it worth looking at changing over to another brand and if so which brand would you reccommend?

Thanks

Tamsin x

You haven't said anything about hay? I'm assuming it's there in plentiful supply, correct? Buns naturally have cloudy pee, sometimes even orange. Doe sit just leave a white coating or is it properly sludgy? If it's the first case then it's normal. Not seen the latter.

Sorry just edited to add unlimited hay!

It is really sludgy , the only way i can think to sort of describe it is like gone off yogurt!!!

all buns have small traces of calcium in their wee and if it is not sludgy I wouldn't worry about it too much but perhaps reduce her pellets (mainly alfafa based & therefore very high in calcium) & of all the veg to cut out I would actually go for spinach which is highest in calcium.

It is really sludgy , I will try cutting down her pellets and i've given her extra cucumber tonight to try and increase her water intake is that right.

One of mine had bladder sludge and at the time he was on SS, we also gave Kale and spinach (limited). We have moved over to Oxbow Bunny Basics T and have not had the problem since *touches wood*, that was 2 years ago.

Try to encourage more fluid intake too.

I will try and get some Oxbow tomorrow and gradually change her over to , that then. She already drinks at least half a bottle of water a day how can I encourage her to drink more?

try a heavy flat bottomed ceramic dog bowl....she may go swimming in it but she wont be able to tip it up!
