  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
I took my rabbit to the vets this morning and was diagnosied with myxi how awful, the lady did tell me she had been given her jabs and was due in june for booster. I have 2 other rabbits living together with her i am hoping that they do not and have not contracted it. The baby is 9 weeks olds now so can have jabs but i need to see in the next 5 days just incase the flea what had bitten the mum has bitten the others.

The vet said to leave it a few days as they might have contracted it already i have brought them indoors now in a new home untill i have cleaned the shed out also i have brought plea treatment but the baby is to young for this but she looks clear from fleas (they both do) its a shame as i have had these 2 weeks now. i only lost my continental giant 3 weeks ago so i am not having a lot of luck with rabbits at the moment and i spoil my animals.

I have just rang my normal vets i use and they have said if the bunnys have contracted the myxi virus the jab would do no good so its just a waiting game for a few days hopefully by the end of the week they can have there jabs and be covered poor bunnys it about 5 days to come out.

how sad did she show you any paper work to show they have had the injection my vet always gives me a card and a sticker on it and she signs it and puts on it when they are next due so myxi is in essex now to glad mine are all up to date with their jabs although my vet said even rabs that have been vaccinated can still get myxi:(

It may not do any good if they have already contracted it (and it wont do any harm either) but it will give them some protection if they haven't. IMO in high risk situations they should be vaccinated but I am not a Vet so cant tell you what to do.

Good luck :)
