Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dewlap?

At what age can female rabbits begin to develop a dewlap?

Over the past two or three days I've noticed Daisy has what looks like the beginning of a dewlap developing, but as she's only 5 months and only 3.3kg (small for a conti) I'm wondering whether it's a normal age for one to develop?

Also, it looks more pronounced on one side than the other - does that happen too with dewlaps?

Could this be something else?

I worry over the slightest thing with Daisy, so sorry if these are stupid questions

If I'm right, then it's usually down to hormones and possibly being overfed. I doubt at her age its food related.

The sooner an op is booked the more it should slow it down.

Jets dewlap is a mixture of the two although she is almost 2 and unspayed. Since losing half her body weight in rescue and slightly more since coming to me it's gone down loads :D (She was very fat).

She'll be getting spayed soon too hopefully (health being well etc).

They do look very odd though and aren't symmetrical.

If you are concerned about anything esle just pop her along for the vet to check her over. They could do a pre op check whislt you are there as she could be "done" soon :D
