  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I think we're losing Kizzy.

I think Kizzy is giving up, and we have nothing more to try. She ate a small amount this morning, but has been very down. I got the vet to look at her, she's already being given metrochlopramide, fibreplex and panacur, and all he could suggest, as a last ditch attempt was a steroid injection, which I have now given.
I've just cleaned her out, and given fresh food and water, but she's looked at nothing. I phoned the vet and the only other thing we can do is give sub-cut fluids again. So she's just had 20mls, I will repeat this through the night.
Can anybody think of anything else, she doesn't seem sore, and now she's had a steroid, she can't have metacam anyway.
I suspect we are fighting against hope, but she was so bright up until today and its a week since her op. Her temperature is normal.
PLEASE any thoughts, anybody.

Oh poor Kizzy
A good heat source such as a heat pad or heat lamp may help. At least it will insure she remains comfortable.

That's odd. If it were post-op complication, it would have shown off long ago. Unless the cancer cell has spread and the surgery, which is an invasive procedure in itself, weaken her body. If so, there is nothing you could have done, because w/o the surgery, she would have died, so it's a very tough situation.

Sending lots and lots of healthy healing vibes to Kizzy.

This is so sad, you've done an excellent in trying all sorts of avenues. Kizzy has been lucky to have you to take care of her all these years.

Oh this is so sad, binky free Kizzy!

You did all you could, and she will be thankful for that!

Hugs to you and your family.
