  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help: my rabbit has a large bump.

Sig seems to have a large bump/knot on his chin. He isn't in pain but I don't want it to turn into a problem. Does anyone know what it is?

EDIT: My stepdad told me that it doesn't seem to be filled with liquid so it's not an abscess.

Sorry I dont know but a trip to the vets will put your mind at rest.
my bunny has a big abcess on his side and it has quite quickly grown in size.
It's also painful for him and we are off to the vets tomorrow to get it operated on.
good vibes for your bunny

Thanks, good vibes for your bunny as well. I read online that it could be an abscess so I guess I was wrong with the appendage I made to the previous post. My mom is calling the vet tomorrow since they aren't open today and making an appointment

It may well be a tooth root abscess as a result of elongated tooth roots. Rabbit abscesses can feel extremely hard. You need to get your Rabbit to a Vet ASAP as if it is a Dental abscess it will require aggressive treatment.
Even it is not an abscess a lump on the jaw is 'abnormal' and requires Veterinary attention.

Good luck :)

Tila has a similar thing - Its very hard and is on the jaw bone itself.

My vet says his is just a callouse of bone where he's injured himself and its healed - It isn't in a position where it is under any teeth so its unlikely his is a root abcess.
