  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

panacur 9 or 28 days?

I am planning on panacuring Hector and Honey as they haven't been done for a while. Last time i gave them the 9 day course but i read on here that some people recommend giving it for longer. I have enough to give them both a 28 day course. Would that be better? Would there be any harm in giving it to them for this long?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks!

For routine protective treatment 9 days is enough. 28 days is only necessary if an active case of EC is suspected. Over-use of Panacur can lead to resistance and can damage the bone marrow of young Rabbits (thus effecting their immune system) so giving long courses unnecessarily is best avoided

:)

Depends what you are treating for:D

9 days is for worms.

28 days is for EC.

I had an EC foster here, so I treated all buns with 6 weeks panacur, as that was what I was told to do after a confirmed case of EC by the vet
