Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

urine scald infection

hi
Dusty was diagnosed with this today and has been given antibiotics. does anyone have any experience of this and any advice?

I bathed my bunny with a hibiscrub - very diluted each day and made sure it was dry after. You can get hibiscrub from chemist very cheap.

Do you know the cause for the urine scald? It might be worth using sudacrem on the scald to help settle the irritation, which should help the wound heal. when we had a bun with an infection we bathed with cooled, boiled water (a pint of water and added 1 tea spoon of salt to that), which worked well, but she wasn't on anti bios. We did that twice a day. Thinking about it, maybe leave the sudacrem until the infection has gone, if it still needs some help.

oh.....thanks for quick replies...........yes i do have sudocrem so i will make use of that!

have just put a post up in the bonding section re the reason i think this is happening. basically dusty is with 3 other buns that were all bonded together about 3 weeks ago. they have decided on 2 definite loo areas but there are still other areas where puddles have been left. one of the corners is where Dusty likes to stretch out so i reckon that she's got it from that. she's fine otherwise and all the other buns are.........did a bum check of them all this morning!

Any chance you could have a bun who is starting to have cystitis or some sort of other urine related issue? That might account for random wees around. It could easily be Dusty if she is lying in it. Hopefully her scald will clear up quickly though :)
