Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is there any way to tell the age of buns?!

Jester

New Kit
Hi all! I am adopting two gorgeous buns from the RSPCA in two days time and they can only tell me that they are older than two years old (or so they think). I know that they have little history on them and I also know it's hard to guess how old bunnies are. They have both been neutered/spayed and when they yawned i caught a peek at their teeth which looked quite white.

I have had buns before but only as babies and just wanted a more specific guess at the ages for these two. One is a Dutch bun and one a lop eared lionhead (if that makes a difference in aging them!). PLEASE HELP! I don't want them to suffer because of their age and me not knowing that they need a Stenna stair lift or zimmer frame! HE HE!

Thanks!

To Be Honest it is near enough impossible to give an age to a bunny unless it is obviously very young or very old.

Good luck with your new bunnies, you must be very excited :D

Yup, it's pretty hard to age a bunny other than young ones, and then after that it is just generally 'adult', 'senior' things like that.

As for you missing signs, try not to worry about the lack of knowledge about their age. If you watch them and know them enough, you will see if they start to struggle, or if they need help or something. That can happen at any age, not just old age, and some old buns don't even know they are old and have no problems anyway.

Hopefully though you will have many years of happiness with this pair :)
