Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

help!! - suddenly stopped eating caecals

Why would a bunny suddenly stop eating its caecals when it had previously been fine?

I'm not even sure which one it is :? :? and I've not changed their diet at all.

Can be an indication of a dental problem (either because they can't grab the caecals easily or because they are not eating as much hay), or something like arthritis or a spinal problem where the bun can't reach round easily. Sometimes as they get older their guts are less able to cope with some foods so it might simply be that a food that was previously ok is now a bit rich for one of them. Obviously you need to find out which one it is and then try and work out what is going on.

oh bother :(

sorrel does have dental issues but has never left her caecals before even when she had super bad spurs :? and they both still seem active....it literally just happened over night, there were loads left yesterday, and some more this morning :?

is there any way to find out who it is other than sitting and watching them till one is caught in the act? i had a look to see if anybun had a mucky bum but no result. :(

Im going to the vet in a couple of days anyway for vaccs so I could get their advice then, unless you think i should do that sooner?

thanks x
