Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

incisors are different lengths, best treatment?

Hi

Ive noticed that my rabbits incisors are different lengths on the bottom. We will take her to the vet on Monday.

Does anyone know which is the best treatment, and most importantly the least stressful for rabbit. Should anaesthetic be used? We havent been to the vets yet in our area because weve not had them that long and we want to know what to expect.

Also, my rabbits are quite newly bonded and I worry that seperation during treatment will be a problem.

Any help is gratefully received.

Thanks

Laura

sometimes one (or more) can break off. the easiest treatment would simply be for the vet the bur the longer incisor on a regular basis until the other regrows to the correct length. bunnys teeth grow very quickly so this shouldn't take too long.
make sure your vet burs the tooth and don't use the clippers as there is a greater risk of the tooth splintering when clippers are used.

An anaesthetic isn't necessary just to burr the front teeth :) You should take both rabbits on the trip, the actual burring only takes a couple of minutes and will be done while you wait :D

thanks everyone

ive called 2 vets and both only clip the teeth. i can understand why burring is better but what if i cant find someone to do this? dont want to take them on a long car journey.

i will take her in but can the teeth possibly correct themselves if the difference between them isnt big?
