  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fitting?/Something to worry about?

Lucifer is shaking her head in rather a peculiar manner; not like anything I've seen before. It's almost as if she's having a silent sneezing fit

This is the first time I've seen her do it & she's done it twice in...half an hour or so. She doesn't seem bothered by it but nothing bothers her anyway!:lol:

Should I be bothered, or am I being a worry-wort?!

Umm not sure about that, I'd be worried too as it doesn't sound quite right does it.

Can anyone else here help?

Is she flicking her ears about a lot whilst doing it? It could be the start of an inner ear infection or a sign of canker....have you checked her ears?

No; her pre-binky shakes are really big, and more with the front half of her body; this is just her head.

I've not noticed whether it's her head or her ears she's shaking - the first time she did it she was down the side of the sofa, the second time she was in the crate so it's been a bit hard to notice, I'll give her lugs a check tonight - I'm sure she'll love me for it :lol:
