  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lana has urine scald on her back legs and she has sore hocks .

the urine scald patches look clean and dry but her poor feet look sore .

vet said to leave them as long as they were clean and she was on vet bed ...but i wondered if it would be better to put on something to help them heal quicker :?:?

if so what ...and can i mail order it :?

Calendula cream is really good and then you can either put vaseline or sudocrem over it. Fuciderm is another one that I regularly use:D

I've had fab results with Flammazine.(Ss:?..too lazy to go downstairs to check:lol:) It's available from the vet.

I havent noticed the poos with Sudocrem. Could be that they are in discomfort from the scald and eat less, making the poos smaller?

is fuciderm prescription only ?

Yes

For sore hocks I have found Flamazine to be excellent.
In the short term a haemorrhoid cream can be helpful, it contains a local anaesthetic and is available OTC. Dont get one with hydrocortisone in though ( eg Anusol HC)

Jane said in her post its OTC (over the counter) so I guess Boots Pharmacy as it must have a human use?

No, I meant haemorrhoid cream is OTC. AFAIK Flamazine is prescription only.
However I am sure I have seen it 'off prescription' on one of the Pet Med websites...........:?
The tube I have here has 'POM' on it (Prescription Only Medicine)

AFIK it's prescription only at the vet. I asked at Boots about 18months ago and was told it was prescription only.
