  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Liquorice is 5months old, unnetured.

I have noticed lately his testicles (are they called that on rabbits? ) are very 'prominent'.

Is this normal - should they be visable? I though it was hard to determine sex of bunnys? Liquorice is def a boy!!!!

Is he ok? Is there anything wrong?

Hihi... don't worry, he's probably allright :)

The difficulty is when they are young, males with split penises and rabbits can pul their testicles up in their body,so when turned around, you can't see them. So don't worry at 5 months it is perfectly normal that you can see them.

It's only hard to sex bunnies before they become sexually mature. What you have described is perfectly normal for an entire male. If a male rabbit is neutered, the testicle sacks shrivel up and disappear but you can still tell the gender after that because they still have an obvious penis, but an unneutered male is rather obvious as you have discovered!

 our rescue buns went up and his scrotal sack kept tripping him up..flapping as he moved..made eating cecals impossible almost etc..yup well endowed buns lol
the vet was stuned at the size of his testicles esp as hes a lionhead!!
