  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

white spot on eye...

kelzuna

Warren Scout
just arrived back from holiday (liquorice been at mums) and he seems to have a tiny white spot on his eyelid.

He has a blocked tear duct in his left eye and has always had problems with it,but never this eye!

what could it be?

Please don't tell me it's something horrible, like bunny syphilis or something.

Yes, the little bump. If you look under the eyelid, you can see that it goes all the way through. Doesn't seem to bother her though...

I have seen these several times. If the lump is aspirated (*Do Not Try This At Home Folks* !! ) pus comes out. Then a weeks course of Tiacil sorts the problem out

Does it need treatment or should I leave it be? I don't want to stress her if it's not going to get any worse or will clear up on it's own...

It would be a good idea to get a Vet to take a look at it. Vet may just advise leaving it alone but as it is so near the eyeball you dont want the lump to cause any abrasions on the eye itself.

So what actually causes them? It looks like those small white fatty deposits some people get around their eyes?

The ones I have seen have been in an eyelash folicle that's become a bit infected.
I have also seen them on the rim of the eyelids/conjunctiva of 'Pasteurella Rabbits'
