  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vet Statement - Can Someone Explain please

Wise Old Thumper
Got the statement for the 2 neuters yesterday and I have never come across the following:

Sedastart Soln for Inj
Ketavet Inj
Buprecare Multi Dose

Just interested what they are.

I'm going to have a complete guess. The 1st a pre-op sedative, 2nd some ketamine based anaesthetic, buprecare I'm sure in buprenorphine which would explain why your boys were all wobbly on their return. I'm looking forward to educated answers!

I'm not sure of the first, but sounds like an pre-op sedative.

Ketavet is a trade name for ketamine, which is used as anaesthetic. My cat used to be really spaced out after having ket so, if your boys were a bit wobbly, that could well be why. Buprecare is a trade name, active ingredient is buprenorphine as joey&boo said, so that's analgesia.

Get in. I have so impressed myself

Buprenorphine is quite often used as pain management for surgery as it's a morphine derivative so alot more effective on severe pain.

Sedastart just sedates them so they are easier to handle pre GA.

The ketamine is the anesthesia and I'd suspect this more likely cause of the wobblyness. Rats in particular do really terrible on it so I'm sure it must effect some bunnies in the same way. If they ever need any further operations you might want a vet who uses gas such as Isoflurane.

Th

They always used to use Isoflurane.

There was a shortage of iso not so long ago, so perhaps still using their stock of replacement ketamine. Bigwig had ketamine sedation last week and was wobbly at home, I don't like it.

Mine didn't even wobble. They were as dead! Took a few hours for them to come round.
